Matt Koon (Founder and Principal)

 

Vocals, Violin, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Piano, Harmonica, Banjo, Mandolin, Ukulele, Recording, Music.

 

 

​Matt Koon has taught music in the Mechanicsville Area for 11 years.  He currently, in addition to handling operations of MaKo Music School, teaches Music Theory at Lee Davis High School to their jazz band, and teaches for Character Works (Christian Theater for Youth).  Matt is an award - winning youth development professional for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond, where he served as Education Director, Physical Director, and finally as Club Director.  

 

Matt has two decades of live band experience recording playing Bass, Piano/Keys, and Guitar, among others, and has been hired in orchestra pits to play Mandolin, Banjo, Electric and Acoustic Guitar, and Dobro.  He loves teaching and playing music. His current students occupy Lee Davis High and Stonewall Middle School Jazz programs, and former students have gone on to music programs at Carnegie Mellon, Berklee School of Music, and VCU.
